Comedian Katt Williams shut the internet down with his jaw-dropping, highly entertaining interview on the Club Shay Shay podcast last week. We all agree we were gifted with a free stand-up special because he was hilarious in the interview. Of course, his whistleblowing is the main recipe that garnered many clicks and views for the podcast. At the same time, we learned a lot about Katt Williams. His childhood and strong alignment with the truth, God, and the Bible mainly fascinated me.
Some of his philosophies align with how believers in Christ should live. I am by no means saying he should be the poster child for Christianity because he is definitely not perfect. But Christians can adopt his way of thinking in some regard. Let’s break down five famous quotes and things he said that believers can learn from.
“Winners are not allowed to allow losers to rewrite history”
Well, what does this quote have to do with a believer’s walk with God? I am glad you asked because the quote speaks volumes. For Katt, it meant not allowing others to appropriate the work, ideas, or craft of the original creator and rightfully reclaiming it by all means. Although it sounds like vigilanti justice, to me, it means using God’s word to fight all strategies of the enemy.
The Bible states in John 10:10 (KJV), “The thief cometh not but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy…” You see, all manner of evil originates in the spiritual realm. The battles Katt Williams has been facing are spiritual, whether he understands this or not. As a result, he needs to fight back spiritually. The Bible says in Ephesians 6:12 (KJV), “..we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” He needs to go into spiritual warfare and pray warfare prayers to reclaim what the enemy has stolen!
Has the enemy stolen from you? If so, just like Katt Williams, you must go into warfare prayer, declare a fast, and reclaim it! Joel 2:25 (KJV) states, “I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpillar, and the palmerworm…” The Bible has many examples of stories where the enemy attempted to steal, kill, and destroy. The story of Gideon, a prophet who defeated the Midanites in battle over land stolen, in the book of Judges (6 – 8), is one example. Gideon won the battle because God was his strength.
“Being afraid in no way stops you from doing what [you need] to do”
As believers, we know “…God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”1 Timothy 1:7 (KJV). As a result, when faced with situations that make us fearful, we must declare that fear will not stop us! Fear is a spirit that will cripple our walk with God. Fear will prevent us from doing what God called us to do! The Bible states cowards will not inherit the kingdom of heaven (Revelations 21:8, 1 Corinthians 6:9).
Katt Williams proved his strength when he spoke of facing his father as a child. He stood by his standards and principles and moved out as a child because his morals clashed with his father’s. He mentioned being afraid to leave but left anyway, demonstrating he faced his fears head-on! Interestingly, he has not changed one bit since he faces his enemies fearlessly, no matter how numerous they are to this very day!
Katt Williams trusted that God would work things out when he left his father’s house at 13 years old
Shannon Sharpe asked Katt if he was afraid to leave his father’s house at the tender age of 13. Katt admitted he was afraid but that he trusted God to protect him. Not only did he prove his bravery in leaving despite not knowing where his next meal would come from, he also had faith in God!
As believers, we must also have faith in God when facing difficult situations. The Bible says in Proverbs 3: 5-6 (KJV), “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths”. God does not want us to look at our current circumstances. He wants us to have faith he will provide all our needs (Philippians 4:19). If you struggle with having faith, remember that the Bible says that faith comes by hearing the word of God (Romans 10:17). Remember that you only need faith as small as a grain of mustard seed (Matthew 17:20)!
“The Bible is the greatest book that’s ever been written, it houses the truth, and it gives you the story of Jesus; and I’m supposed to be like him”
What a profound statement, indeed! The Bible is certainly the greatest book ever written because it houses the truth. Jesus came so he could be the example of how we, as followers of Christ, should be. What is even more, Grace saves us, we will have life everlasting, and we are under the divine protection of the Father! I cannot imagine my life without God! My life is a true testament to his grace and favor! I am here today because of Him!
God leads by example in many ways. He demonstrated humility by washing His disciple’s feet; he healed the sick, cared for the poor, and forgave those who crucified Him. God did many other things to show how we, as Christians, should live. The Bible says we should be perfect in righteousness. According to Matthew 5:48 (KJV), Jesus says, “Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.” Katt Williams’ statement that we should be like Him was spot on.
“If you decide today that you’re going to live every day like it’s your last for real…It will change your life!”
What would you do with your time if you knew you had only 24 hours to live? Would you sort out your finances, make amends for any wrongdoing, or fulfil a lifelong dream. Whatever your choice, you will undoubtedly live with a new sense of purpose. Katt Williams meant this when he said your life will change if you live life like each day is your last. Do you know that God commands the same from us?
In Matthew 24:37-39, Jesus spoke of the end times, suggesting that just like in the days of Noah, people would be oblivious to their impending judgment. People will go about their day, unaware it will be their last. Similarly, death can also take us by surprise, transforming us from this world into eternity. The Bible says in James 4:14, that we do not know what tomorrow will bring. Our lives are like vapor, today we are here, and then instantly vanishes away.
Do you have eternal life, or will you face eternal damnation? God says He came so that we would have life, and that more abundantly. This is why God wants us to have a true relationship with Him. Our purpose is to serve him, so that we can have eternal life. When God returns we must be like the five wise virgins with oil in their lamps (Matthew 25:4). I am sure you do not want to be on the recieving end of, “Verily I say onto you, I know you not” (Matthew 25:12). It is for this reason, we need to live life like it is our last, because we do not know when we will see our Maker.
Katt Williams stood on his principles and did not fold to the will of others for a paycheck.
What I liked the most about Comedian Katt Williams is that he refused to compromise his values for worldly pleasures. As Christians, we must always have a mindset of following the straight and narrow path over enjoying the worlds pleasures. God commands us not to love the world or the things in it because If we love the world, the love of God is not in us (1 John 2:15-17).
Jesus was tempted by satan when he took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the worlds kingdom. He told Jesus that he would inherit the kingdoms of the world only if He worshipped him. But Jesus stood firm and said to the devil, “Get thee hence…for it is written that you should serve the Lord your God, and Him only shall you serve” (Matthew 4:10). God did not fold to the devil because he enticed Him with the things of the world, and neither should we.
The Bible says the lust of the flesh, the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the father but of the world (1 John 2:16). We can see why this is, because has its origins in the demonic realm. As followers of Christ, we must be spiritually lead; we must be set apart! Therefore, we must carry our cross and continue to press toward the mark of His high calling in Christ Jesus (Philippians 3:14).
Katt Williams is not perfect, but neither are we. However, parts of his life can definitely mimick a true believer’s walk with God, and we can learn from it. The Bible states our righteousness is as filthy rags (Isaiah 64:6). But we must constantly strive for perfection in righteousness at all times.
